Baby Gorillas Tuck In

So many of you loved hearing about the Howletts gorillas enjoying their food boxes from The Pig that we’re bringing you some fun gorilla facts.

Did you know?

  • On average a newborn baby gorilla weighs around 2 kg?

  • Kifu is Howlett’s heaviest gorilla topping the scales at an almighty 226 kg, although a more sensible weight for him is around 210 kg.

  • Confounding the stereotype, not all gorillas like bananas and Djanghou only considers them if they’re very green. Kouillou far prefers a really good parsnip.

  • One thing they can all agree on is their love of eggs (You can see the gorillas and other animals from Port Lympne and Howletts enjoying their eggs in the video below).

  • The annual food bill for the animals at Howletts and Port Lympne is £1.5 million.

If you’d like to support the animals at Port Lympne and Howletts, you can buy a food parcel or donate.  Currently, whilst  The Aspinall Foundation is appealing to the public to help them to sustain the animals whilst not receiving their usual funds from tickets sales, events and accommodation. You can feed the animals here.
