Countryside Heroes: The Rock Inn spreads community cheer with home grown initiatives
Updated: Apr 1
We know that Emma, Jim and Tashy Welch who run The Rock Inn at Hoath Corner in a leafy corner of Kent are special because their customers and friends tell us so.
They run a traditional country pub – supporting everything local and ethical and putting the countryside on a plate as well as a busy livery yard. They provide daily meat and veg boxes for all their customers all at cost – orders can be left up until 10.00pm for the next day and fish boxes once a week too on the same basis.
They tell all their customers ‘We are here for you’ and are dedicated to keeping the community safe during the uncertain time of COVID-19. All NHS staff are fed for free and Bake Off Tuesday in the village ensures cakes are also taken to the local hospital. Emma runs a craft night on Tuesday on the internet – and they really are quite inspiring people. The pub gets amazing reviews and we must all make sure we visit their wonderful business on the other side.
Emma is also asking all homeschoolers, pubs, people in isolation, customers, friends and everyone else to make their own daily piece of bunting. Drawing, sewing, painting using anything you can lay your hands on, and documenting each day over the next 3 months. A triangle for each day if you can.
When we are through this, each piece of bunting will be joined together and used throughout the village at a huge party to celebrate. What a great idea. Why not do the same thing in your village? Let’s get the nation crafting...
Do you have any great ideas that can be rolled out nationwide? We'd love to hear them and share with the community! Let us know by submitting your idea or story here.
